Session overview
During the November 3 prayer call, Terrie Beeman encouraged participants to remain faithful during challenging seasons of marriage. She explained that marriage requires perseverance, spiritual maturity, personal accountability, and a willingness to allow God to work within each spouse. Through personal testimony, biblical teaching, and prayer, Terrie reminded participants that difficult seasons can become opportunities for spiritual growth and that God can use their experiences to encourage others. The central message was to keep God at the center of marriage, continue growing personally, and not give up simply because the journey becomes difficult.
Five key teachings
- Keep God at the center of your marriage. Ecclesiastes 4:12 describes the strength of a threefold cord. Terrie explained this as a marriage strengthened by the husband, wife, and God. When challenges arise, couples should continue pursuing God through prayer, Scripture, and intentional spiritual growth.
- Do not grow weary in doing good. Galatians 6:9 was the central Scripture of the call. Terrie acknowledged that marriage can involve exhausting seasons, disappointments, disagreements, and unanswered prayers. Participants were encouraged to remain faithful, exercise patience, and seek God's guidance instead of allowing discouragement to determine their next steps.
- Allow God to examine your heart. Rather than focusing exclusively on a spouse's shortcomings, participants were encouraged to examine their own hearts. Terrie described how God challenged her to recognize areas in her own life that needed attention, including bitterness, unforgiveness, resentment, unresolved childhood wounds, and personal attitudes and behaviors. Spiritual growth requires humility, honest reflection, and a willingness to change.
- Stay connected to God during difficult seasons. Terrie encouraged participants to continue praying, studying Scripture, fasting when appropriate, and maintaining a relationship with God. Difficult seasons should not cause believers to withdraw completely from spiritual community or supportive relationships. Spiritual habits can provide strength, perspective, and encouragement.
- God can build a testimony through your experience. Terrie reflected on challenges she and Donald experienced in their marriage. She shared that attempting to resolve everything through their own strength did not produce lasting progress; returning God to the center of their relationship helped them grow and strengthen their marriage. Your own experiences may eventually provide hope and encouragement to others.
Personal Reflection Questions
- Have I become discouraged or weary in my marriage?
- Am I allowing God to guide my decisions and responses?
- Have I focused more on changing my spouse than examining myself?
- Are bitterness, resentment, or unresolved hurts affecting my relationship?
- What spiritual habits can I strengthen this week?
- What is one practical step I can take toward growth, healing, or healthier communication?
- How might my experience eventually encourage another couple?
Prayer Focus and Next Steps

Lord, strengthen our marriages and families. Help us remain faithful during difficult seasons. Reveal the areas of our hearts that need healing, and teach us to respond with humility, patience, wisdom, and love. Guide our steps and help our experiences become testimonies of Your goodness. In Jesus' name, Amen.
A note on safety: Perseverance and forgiveness do not require you to remain in an abusive or unsafe situation. If you or your children are in danger, get safe first and call 911 or the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-800-799-7233.
