Break the Curse: 20 Declarations to Break Generational Curses Off Your Marriage
Some of the battles in your marriage didn't start with you. Patterns like divorce, infidelity, anger, addiction and silence can be passed down from one generation to the next until someone stands up and says, "It ends with us." In this prayer, Terrie Beeman leads husbands and wives in breaking generational curses off their marriage by the power of the almighty God and in the name of Jesus.
The message: Christ has already broken the curse
"Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us" (Galatians 3:13). You are not bound to repeat what you saw growing up. In Christ, you and your spouse are a new creation (2 Corinthians 5:17), and your marriage can be transformed by the renewing of your mind (Romans 12:2). These declarations put that truth into words over your home.
How to pray these declarations
- Pray out loud, together if you can. If your spouse isn't ready, stand in the gap and declare them over your marriage yourself.
- Pray them all, then linger on the ones that hit home. Repeat a declaration until your faith rises to meet it.
- Pair them with action. Breaking a curse in prayer and building new habits go together. Forgive, set boundaries, get help for addiction, and learn to communicate.
